The things we do...

The average rate for all of these services can be found at the bottom of their descriptions! 
Does a price sound a bit high for you? That's okay. We like to work with users, companies (and especially non-profits or academic facilities). Contact us and we can work something out! 
All jobs involving hardware (whether it be a repair, device, or otherwise) are paid 50% upfront, 50% after job completion. 

Maintenance and Repair

Hardware Support

Keep your devices in check with our services: assistance in setting up new devices, hardware recommendations, out-of-warranty repair services, and facilitation of in-warranty repairs.  All hardware repairs come with a 90-day warranty from us. If something goes wrong within that period for a related issue, we'll do everything we can to fix it! For OEM parts (such as laptop motherboards, or most Apple parts). We try to use original parts where we can. However, sometimes third-party parts may be used. We'll be sure to let you know if parts are original, or third party, where we can. Average Rate: $75/hr + one time $30 diagnostic fee (billed in rates of 15 minutes) NOTE: Because of anti-repair policies from Apple and other companies, for the most part we cannot work on newer (post 2018) MacBooks, any model of iPad, or most phones. We'll let you know if we can't service your device when you reach out. We'll also do our best to find you other options.

Software Support

For non-physical issues, we offer general software support, collaborate with support companies on your behalf, provide software upgrades, assist with setting up new software, and offer tailored software recommendations. This can be done either onsite or remotely, depending on your preference and the issue itself.  Average Rate: $75/hr + one-time $20 diagnostic fee (Billed in 15 minute increments)

Sudden outages, brownouts, and dirty power (voltage fluctuations or electrical noise) can quietly damage your devices over time, shortening their lifespan and causing unexpected failures. In areas like the Gunflint Trail, where cell coverage is limited, losing Internet isn’t just inconvenient. It can cut off your primary means of communication. Whether you're a business that needs to stay online to process payments, or a home user who just wants enough time to save your work before the lights go out, having a reliable backup system is critical. That’s where we come in. Short Bit Services can help you choose, install, and maintain UPS systems and other power backup solutions tailored to your needs. These systems provide: Instant backup power during outages, giving you time to safely shut down or continue working. Voltage regulation to protect sensitive electronics from surges and dips. Peace of mind knowing your devices are shielded from the wear and tear of unstable power. Network continuity, keeping routers and modems online so you stay connected even when the grid doesn’t. Whether you're running a point-of-sale system, managing remote work, or just want to protect your home setup, we’ll help you find the right solution to keep your tech running smoothly—no matter what the Trail throws your way. Average Rate: $100-$150/hr + hardware cost (based on complexity, billed in 15-minute increments.) All hardware comes with the hardware manufactures warranty + 1 year by us. We'll cover non-wear and tear issues should something fail and provide maintenance for your devices as needed. We'll work out the details per job.

We offer setup assistance for smart home devices, tailored recommendations based on your space and goals, and troubleshooting for connectivity, automation, and app integration issues. Whether you're installing a single smart thermostat or building out a full home automation suite, we’re here to make it seamless. Whether you're curious about the best smart lock for your front door or need help syncing your entire ecosystem, we’d love to help! Average Rate: $125-$200/hr + hardware costs. (Exact quote based on complexity. Billed in 15-minute increments)

Security Systems

Security cameras, alarms, and other security systems have become essential in today’s world. Whether for your home or business, we’re here to help ensure your property is protected from break-ins, wild animals, and unexpected events. Let us assist you in finding and installing the best equipment to keep you, your visitors, and your property safe. upgrades, assist with setting up new software, and offer tailored software recommendations. This can be done either onsite or remotely, depending on your preference and the issue itself.  Average Rate: $150/hr OR Project based at jobs $500 or over.

E-Waste Management

We value reuse, and recycling. E-waste is among the worst problems for the environment, and hardware availability. We want to help fix that. We will load up, take, clean, and donate your devices on your behalf to be repaired and reused, or recycled properly.  Some devices may still be very usable and can be used by Short Bit Services for local use, such as a donor device, or employee device. These will have their Hard Drives (or SSDs) destroyed, replaced, and then reused.  Other devices will be loaded up and taken to our partners to manage. We take all devices by load to Free Geek in Minneapolis for them to find a new home.  The best part? This service is free. We value this issue so much, that we won't charge a cent for this service. We will swing by as available and grab you load for you!  Please note we do this service as available. Generally, we can't guarantee a schedule as we do this as we're in your area. Call for details!  Average Rate: $0/hr. as available.

Remote Monitoring and Management

Whether you're tired of surprise updates disrupting your workflow, concerned about aging devices quietly failing, or simply want your systems to run smoothly without constant oversight, we're here to help. We can assist in patching your programs and operating systems on a more consistent basis, avoid bad updates, and monitor your hardwares health.  Average Rate: $25/device/month (Bundles are available for multiple devices. Anti Virus/Security Solutions

In today’s digital landscape, avoiding viruses, ransomware, and other security threats is more challenging than ever. Whether for personal use or business operations, safeguarding your devices and networks is essential to keeping your data secure. We’re here to help. We’ve partnered with Bitdefender, one of the world’s top-rated antivirus providers, to offer robust antivirus protection. Additionally, we provide Endpoint Detection & Response (EDR) services through Bitdefender or SentinelOne, giving you advanced threat detection and rapid response capabilities. Let us help you build a safer, more secure digital environment. Average Rate: $10-$25/device/month (Exact Rate will depend on the exact features you want. Bundle deals exist for bulk devices. Break/Fix Agreements      

We provide long-term "break/fix" support for those seeking a more consistent service. Each job is a per-incident event but billed as a collective. This is more of your traditional "Multi-Service Provider" solution. This solution looks a bit different for each company, but we're happy to find what works for you! Average Rate: $50-$100/hr. (The specifics of this will vary depending on exactly what you're looking for. Contact us for details!)

Trying to complete a large email or server migration? Looking for a really specific solution to a problem? Looking for a general improvement? Whatever the project is, we'll work with you to figure out a proper solution.  Average Rate: $75/hr-$300/hr or flat rate. Highly dependent on project. Contact us to work something out!

Emergency Services

Outages are never enjoyable. They cause disruption of business (that can lead to profit loss), headaches, safety issues, and worse. We consider "Emergency Services" any service that is required same day, regardless of the above categories. Note, we only recommend emergency services for: Home users unable to work from their property due to an internet outage or a broken device. Business users whose systems are down, preventing them from taking payments or functioning, and who need immediate assistance. Critical security events. If you believe you require emergency services, please reach out, and we’ll help determine if this is the best solution for your situation. For these services, please call us—do NOT email! We don’t want to risk missing anything. Emergency services are provided on a first call - first serve basis. Average Rate: 1.5x-2.5x the rates listed based on category. 1.5x rate on normal days 2x rate on high volume days 2.5x rate on Holidays listed on the contact us page. Please consider this with caution or contact us for advice on this. Rates can be negotiable depending on the specific event.

Support Policy/Process

We’re committed to providing fast, friendly, and effective IT support for every client. To ensure fairness and transparency, our support plans include a set number of support requests (“tickets”) each month, which can be used for either remote or onsite assistance.

How Support Tickets Work

  • Flexible Support:
    Each ticket may be used for remote support (preferred for speed and convenience) or onsite assistance, depending on your needs.

  • Prioritization: 

    • High or critical priority issues, such as businesses without internet (and cannot take payments), critical security events, etc. will be prioritized above other issues​

      • Other issues are first-come, first-serve, or based on appointment order. ​

  • Remote Support:
    Most issues can be resolved quickly via phone, email, or secure remote desktop. Remote support is available and is the fastest way to get help.

  • Onsite Support:
    If a problem cannot be resolved remotely, onsite visits are available and may be scheduled using your included tickets. Onsite support is subject to availability and may require advance scheduling.

  • Travel Policy:
    Onsite support along the GunFlint Trail is included. Additional travel may incur a mileage fee.

 

Our Commitment

  • We strive to resolve issues remotely whenever possible to minimize downtime and costs. (We aim for 2-3 days resolve for most issues)

  • Onsite support is provided, when necessary, with priority scheduling for urgent issues.

  • All support requests are tracked and managed through our ticketing system for transparency and accountability.
